My evaluation for 2011

In the begining of 2011 I found figuring out my equations very difficult . I always used the wrong strategy or the most complicated strategy. I would always get confused. As we went through the year Mrs Tui taught me stategyies that really helped me. During term 3 and 4 i became better and better . My favourite stategy is place value. It includes alot of addition . I am very confident in addition i find it easy. Mrs Tuis strategies have really helped me inprove. I think I have done well in maths . Its my favourite subject. :)

My Maths Strategy :)

My Maths Strategy :)

Theirs 5 Pizzas that needed to be shared between 6 people.

Divide each pieces into 6
Because their are 5 pizzas divide it by 5 = 30
Then divide 30 to 6 people = 5

So each person gets 5 slices each of the pizza.

My HoLiday :)

During the holidays, my Samoan Sunday school and I aIong with other Parishes went to Glenn Innes primary school. We were all very excited. The roads were full of Samoan people. It was an exciting Saturday morning.

Their was a MASSIVE truck decorated with Samoan decorations. The sides of the truck were removed. In the truck was Miss Samoa,NZ, A Taupou (Samoan dancer) and Some Samoan Chiefs.

The Famous Miss Samoa was waving to everyone as we walked past the truck. She was smiling a lot. She looked very friendly.

We were leading the march. We had two flags representing our Sunday school. Finally we started the march.

We started in front of G.I Primary School. We walked down the road towards G.I. Everyone was cheering, yelling and waving their flags. We were moving at the pace of a turtle.

We stopped at the round about. There were HEAPS of people watching us. They were cheering for us, I saw SO many cameras. I smiled at all of them.

We carried on walking around the round about . Up the road we went, around to mad butcher and carried on and stopped outside the library.
What a fun start to the day.

My new maths strategy

During maths I have learnt to jump through a tidy number using a number line.
58+ ?= 72
58+2=60 (Take it to the nearest tidy number)
+ 11 to make 71 last add 1 to make 72.

Our GREAT talent show!!

My class and I walked into the hall. There was a dead silence. No one was talking. I was surprised. Some parents were sitting around the hall, students sitting on the floor. Mrs Williams took us to our place. We all waited for the
talent show to start. It was a warm Friday.

Our hosts Lavinia and Robertanna marched up to the middle of the hall. “WHATS UP ST PIUS” they said. I suddenly said to myself this will be a good show. “First act room 4 singing for us. Give it up for room 4” Lavinia said.

About an hour later the show was still going on I wondered what time the show was going to end. “Angelica and her group” Our hosts announced again. I sat with excitement. After the performance I cheered and cheered. A few more performances and then suddenly the show was nearly finished.

The last performance was room 7. I had no clue what was happening. We all went up and sang ‘As we gather’. During the song the parents got up and left. Some of us had to stay behind and clean up. I am really looking forward to the next talent show.

My holidays

I woke up with a sudden shock. I looked around. luckily I was back to reality. I jump to my feet with excitement. I barge into my Mothers room. My sister was sitting there with my Mum. “SO what are we doing today?”I asked. “Get up Get ready” My Dad said in a rush. What’s happening Dad. ‘Get Ready’ he said again.

“We’re going to the movies” my dad answered again. “HOORAY” I was jumping for joy. I rushed back to my room. Put on shorts, T-shirt e.t.c. I grabbed the brush , brushed my hair. As I as about to walk out the door. I saw the cream. Standing on the fire place. I dived for it. Slapped some on my face, legs and arms. Off we went.

Went walked in the Sylvia park Hoyts. We were discussing our movie. ‘OKAY’. we’re going to watch Transformers 3. The movie was on at 1:00. But it was only 9:30. We bought our snacks and our tickets. We walked around for a few hours. FINALLY it was time to go in the cinema.

The movie started. It was about bad robots trying to take over the world. Unfortunately they destroyed the city. Their plan was going well. Building's were falling and cars were on fire. In one blink of an eye they were all defeated and the world was safe again.

I walked out with a lot of joy. I really enjoyed the movie and I really want to watch it again. So than we walked around Sylvia park and went to the food court. We ate our delicious big ice-creams and milkshakes. Off we went home.

Swimming pool highlight

My highlight in the new portable swimming pool was when we were playing Salmon says. People were cheating and pointing at each other saying “Your out! Your out!” It was very funny.

I walked out of the pool. I felt like I was standing in Antarctica. I felt the wind hitting me like a big boulder.

My weekend

On Saturday I woke up and went to the sitting room to watch television. When I got up I just realised that I was the only one awake and that my dad was gone to work.

At about 10 o’clock I got up had breakfast and e.t.c. My sisters had finally woke up. It was bored so I jumped on computer and didn’t get off till about 2 o’clock

Straight after that I went to the kitchen to make me something to eat. while my sister went on the computer. I made myself a cheesy toasted sandwich. About 5-10 minuets I went with my mum pick up my nana from work.

Not long after my dad and my uncle came home from work. It was pouring down with rain. It was becaming dark so we all just watch Tv for a while and soon after went to sleep.

This is a picture of my Picasso drawing. The left side of my picture is facing the right side of the drawing. The left side represents who I am. The right side represents just me.

Fantastic Mr fox
Author:Roal Dahl

This book is about a 3 farmers who is having trouble with a fox stealing food for his family to eat. The farmers are camping outside the foxes homes waiting for them to come out.

The best part is when the fox’s dig for their life’s because the 3 farmers are using mechanical diggers and they still can’t catch up. Also while that is happening the fox’s are still stealing food from the farmers. The foxes are traveling underground to barns of food.

I really like this book because its funny and theres not one part that is not boring, the excitement keeps on going through the book.

I rate this book 5 because it has an awesome introduction and I think that this book is funny, exciting and is the book that I would love to read over and over again.

Netbook persuadesive writing

Net-book is not a great tool for learning.

Net-books are a massive distraction. We students have a lot of interest in Internet and sometime we use it inappropriately

Their are a lot of bad uses for a net-book . People can go on You-tube, games, face book, downloading e.t.c
However on the Internet people can cyber-bullying and it can lead to a terrible ending.

Also when using the Internet you can correct spelling mistakes. I don’t find this tool effective on our our learning. Also I think the Internet is very tempting by going on to other sites that we are not allowed on or that are inappropriate. Another reason when we are disconnected it wastes more of our learning time.

Also in our maths our net-books has a calculator installed in our net-book so people can go straight to their calculator and cheat and then they put in the wrong group and is not able to complete his/her work.

Obviously I think that Notebook's are not a great tool for learning and it is not going to help us achieve our goals that much.

Sinking and floating

This is our new topic Sinking and floating. I have recently learnt objects that sink and objects that float.
Sinking is when you put a object in the water and it automatically falls to the bottom.
Floating is when you put another object in the water and it stays on top of the water without falling to the bottom.

Maths reflection

Today’s maths lesson was one of the best lessons I’ve ever had. Everyone was on task their were people talking but everyone went back to their task.
Also we were learning about measurement. The activity I mostly enjoyed was estimating and measuring our heights. We marked our heights, estimated our own and each others. I also figured out difference between the actual height and our estimations.
e.g .To measure a window we can use a centimeter ruler or a meter ruler. I would use a meter ruler because its easier to use for larger areas. The window is 1m 30cm.

In room 7 we learn about the ascension of Jesus. How he ascended to heaven. We had to draw a tittle page to show who was viewing the book that it was a new beginning of the topic. The ascension is when Jesus ascended to his father in heaven. Also that day he promised to send down the Holy spirit to the disciples.

Maths activity

I have learnt that when I look carefully at my work it shows easy ways of learning how to skip count. That helped me get through my work and skip counting can really help me in my maths. I hope I can use it in my next activity.

Easter Sunday

As I woke up on a Sunday morning, wondering what time it was I jumped out of bed and asked my Mum “What time is it?” she replied “about 9:30” Uh-oh I forgot about church.

I raced back to my room and scurried through my draws. I was worried that I wasn’t gonna make it to church on time. What to wear, what to WEAR I thought. I saw my jeans put them on straight away. I grabbed a random T-shirt from my draws, I brushed my teeth, brushing roughly, as I did not want to go church with stinky breath.

I zoomed off in a rush to find the brush. I saw the brush sitting on the couch as if it knew I was looking for it and I brushed my hair. I Slapped cream on my face and I took another look at the clock and it was 9:50am. My family and I walked down to church and I just made it in time.

Church was a peaceful time. We remembered Jesus as he died on the cross for our sins. It was an Easter Sunday.

Later on that day I received 7 Easter eggs. Four from my Sunday school, two from my uncle and one from my Dad. I can’t wait for next year.

An exhausting day!!

It was a Friday morning and Saint Pius the X School had started the day with a beautiful St Patrick’s mass. Today was the day St Pius X School had their annual Athletics day .

Morning tea was here, everyone was getting ready for the day ahead of them. Everyone got changed into their running clothes. The groups were Kiwis, Geckos, Tuis, and Keas.

The bell rang . Everyone had to go to their house group.

The relays started. I was so nervous because I didn’t want to run in the relays. The kids were going up. It was getting closer to the 10 year olds.

The 10 year old kids were called up and I walked up with them.

It was time to run. “GO” said Mr Gaffney .

Time went Past it was now time for the 200 meter race half way around the field. It was optional .

I was thirsty I was patiently waiting for lunch time.

The Bell rang for lunch time. I was relieved and happy. I could finally have a drink

ahhhhhhhh, I sighed a sigh of relieved.

Suddenly I herd the bell ring again. That meant that lunch was over.

“10 year old boys and girls make your way to Mr Gaffney for your 200 meters race.” I didn’t run I just watched. Straight after that was the novelty races. 1st was Room 1 and 2 e.t.c. . Finally it was Room 7,5 and 6. We did relays.

Tui’s and Kiwis was first to challenge.

Tuis won the race. Kiwis were saying that the Tuis cheated. Now was Keas and Geckos. Kiwis were cheering for Geckos but I was cheering for Keas. The game finished and the winners was the Geckos. Then, all of a sudden their were people running again. The final winner was........................... ‘KEAS’ hooray I was yelling.

The final groups were Keas and tuis. The games were intense. Everyone was running as fast as they could. The games was over and the winner was...........................................’TUIS’.

It was the end of athletics and now we end it with a chant competition. The running winner were geckos the chant winners were geckos and the behaviour winners were.........................’GECKOS’ AGAIN Yay the geckos were shouting.

Last day of school

It was the 16th of December, the last day of school. It was also sadly the last day for Year 8, as they move with their life on to college. Holding their memories of St Pius X school inside them.

At the beginning of the day we all lined up ready to receive our daily messages from the teachers. As Room 6 walked into the classroom staring at our stocking’s that we made the day before we saw chocolate, candy canes and so much more.

As we said our prayer I was thinking about the new journey next year in 2011 with Mrs Tui as my teacher. Next our prayer ended with the sign of the cross in English.

As the day went on room 6 was finishing off our left over work and also helping Miss G take down our posters and pictures from the wall for next years students. It was finally morning tea as room 6 went to the tennis courts to play dodgeball. ’RINNNNGG’ went the bell as room 6 ran to line up.

In the middle block of the room was a stack the tables with everything else in the middle of our classroom. The school rang which meant that everyone had to make their way to the hall for a final assembly and giving out the last certificates of the year.

One of the first certificates went to a girl named Anita. As the certificate’s went on it came up to the music certificates for recorder, ukulele, guitar and so on. As I was sitting down when I looked up I heard my name be called out for guitar. I was shocked
because I thought that another boy in the guitar group would get the award. As I walked up I felt proud and shy because everybody was staring at me.

As the assembly was ending it was time to give out the trophy and large glossy book, which was the Mainfrieght Award. As they were annoucing the person I was excited to find out who the person was. Mr Coakley said “And the award goes to...........
..........................Latai Vakauta”. Latai was lucky to get the award because she was one of the year 8’s leaving St Pius and now she has something to remind her about St Pius X School.

The assembly finally finished, it was a happy end. The year 8’s were signing each others blouse’s and room 6 ate chocolates and the rest of the school were saying bye to their f
riend’s and teachers.

That was the end of 2010 at St Pius X School and good luck to those year 8’s on their way to college in 2011.
