Career week .

In week 8 , the students of Room 7 had to chose what career we would like to do when we grow up.

I have chosen to become a Aviation security officer (ASO). As a ASO  they are to perform duties to help ensure the safety of New Zealand. To be a Aviation security you have to be dedicated , responsible and willing to commit to the safety within the airport.

They are required to
  • Screen carried on luggage
  • Screen check in luggage
  • Watch the airport workers
  • Search the aeroplane
You need a
  • Full New Zealand licence
  • A New Zealand residency or citizenship
  • Good english (Other languages would be an advantage)
  • Flexible around work hours
  • Good peoples skills , integrity , honesty and trustworthiness .
  • The competencies we look for are:

Striving – Drive for achievement, need for expertise, drive to put beliefs in action;
Thinking – Focus, discipline, personal responsibility; and
Relating – Empathy, attentiveness to individual differences, ability to persuade, taking charge.

Personally I would like to become a ASO because I would like to experience someone trying to import drugs.

    My Decimals

This year decimals were my weak point. Going through this year I now know how to solve decimal equations. I am now going to show you how I solve my decimal .

    For example. : 7.2 x 1.8= ?

First I multiply these numbers avoiding the decimal point.
72x18=1296. But then where do I put the decimals ?

Looking at my equation there is 1 place before both decimals. 1+1=2. So I move the decimal 2 places from the end of my answer. 12.96

    Camp 2012

There was so many things I enjoyed. Archery was one of the best. It was my first time and a great experience. It was harder than it looked. I wasn't to good but got some good shots. If I had another chance to play I would take it . Camp was great.

    Dogs

Dogs are useful animals. For some people dogs are used to guide the blind. They are also used in the police force for their senses. There are more than 100 types of dog also known as breeds.

Dogs have been a man’s best friend for over 14,000 years. They are descended from the family of wolves. Scientist say that a man and a dog have strong bond.

The smallest breed is a Chihuahua. They weigh 4 pounds and 5 inches high measured at the shoulders. The tallest Breed of dog is a wolfhound. They are measured to 39 inches to the shoulders. the heaviest dog is a St Bernard . They weigh up to 200 pounds.

I love dogs and I think there are nothing wrong with them. It’s great to have someone to play with all the time and to protect you. They are joyful and playful animals.

    The Olympic torch

This is my report writing based on the Olympic Torch.

Title : Olympic torch General Statement: The Olympic torch is lit every four years. The olympic torch is a tradition. The torch is carried to each country that the olympics are held in.

Description: The ancient olympics was founded by Hercules a son of Zeus. The Olympics started in 776 BC. They are dedicated to the Olympian gods. They continued for 12 years, until Emperor Theodosius decided that pagan cults were banned.

In 1896 one french and 2 british men reintroduced the Olympics. The olympic torch is a symbol of the theft by the ancient greek god. The Fire was reintroduced in the 1928 Summer Olympics.

Evaluation : I think the olympic torch is a great way to signify the olympics. I like the idea that it burns throughout the whole of the olympics and is put out at the closing ceremony .

    Maths reflection

In today’s maths lesson I have learnt how to use place value to solve a multiplication problem.

    Example: 39 x 23

    30 x 20 = 600
    9 x 3 = 27
    600+27 = 627

The truth was hard, in the war years. The newspapers were full of propaganda, but it didn’t report the truth.
One day Ginetta carried a cardboard suitcase which was filled with secret newspapers. As Ginetta stopped on a tram, her suitcase hinges fell apart and the newspapers flew out everywhere.
Ginetta hurried to pick it up and walked for miles to her flat.
Ginetta  wore many disguises. She dressed as a cleaning lady. Ginetta was sent to the Swiss border to pick up a knapsack. She had to do take it to her friend. When Ginetta returned, the central train station was bombed. As she walked, two officials were checking passengers bags for contraband. Ginetta tried to walk through. Ginetta reached for her knapsack and went to meet Nino who took her knapsack to the bank. “The knapsack was full of money to help families and prisoners.”

*They clipped and gathered information for secret newspapers, then risked carrying them to distant towns, even though the penalty for being caught was death . page:14

^I chose this sentence because it shows that this job is important for Ginetta and that she would risk her life for this job

*When Ginetta finally stepped off the train , hoisting her heavy load , a german soldier reached for her suitcase “Signorina,” he said , “may I help you?” Ginettas legs turned to jelly.

    Maths strategy (:

I have decided to do this strategy. This was the only  one I didn't understand. I finally figured it out.
I have learnt that if you add the same amount to the equation. The answer will still come out the same .

    EXAMPLE:
Paris  and her brother spent $183 in their sisters 21st birthday present. Her brother paid $68 towards it. How much did Paris pay ?.

    183 - 68 = 115
If you add 2 to both numbers it will be 185 - 70 and it will still equal the same amount .

    Basketball :)

Bouncing the ball. Running and running. Catch! We quickly sat down. It was a hot Tuesday morning.

“Make sure you bounce the ball at the height of your hips” said our Coach Bruce. Again we had another go. Off I went! Running and bouncing the ball. Around the cone and back. Down we sat.

It was time for a new activity. We were in the same groups. Each group was given a coloured cone. The whistle went. Bouncing the ball the ball Phoenix went . He flipped the cone that was the same colour as ours. Running back he gave the ball to saane. Sadly we didn’t win. But it was still fun.

It was time for the next activity. “GO“ said coach Bruce. Running on the white line. Running to the hoop. GOAL! Running to the hoop. She shot, she missed, try again! we yelled. Sadly she missed. The game continued. The game was over. “WE WON WE WON” my team yelled. Sadly our lesson was over. We thanked our instructors and walked back to class. Our first lesson was fun. Learning how to dribble. Also having a experienced coach teach us was exciting as well. I can’t wait for next week.
